Gods Desire to Get Married Motivated Him to Become IncarnatedJohn 3:16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that every one who believes into Him would not perish, but would have eternal life. God loves man (John 3:16). Motivated by this love, He condescended through incarnation to attract, woo, and win His loving seekers among mankind. Eventually, through His complete salvation of man, God will have produced for Himself a counterpart that matches Him in life, nature, mind, being, image, and glory, but not in His incommunicable Godhead (Lee, HWMR 32). Accordingly, the entire Bible is the divine romance of two loving parties: God with man and man with God (Billheimer 23; Lee, L-S Song 2-3). The courtship in this romance begins with the incarnation; the wedding day will take place in the millennial kingdom; and the marriage life will be in the New Jerusalem for eternity (Lee, Crystallization 46-47). [Genesis] The introduction to the whole Bible shows us that God wants a counterpart. [Song of Songs] The King (a type of Christ) laid aside His splendor to become so approachable to the lowly country girl (a type of the seekers of Christ) whom He loved. [Prophets] The Old Testament prophets repeatedly emphasize the status and position of Gods created and chosen people as Gods beloved spouse. [Gospels] Christ is referred to as the Bridegroom. [Epistles] The Apostle Paul realized and clearly conveyed to the believers that theirs was a marriage relationship with Christ. [Wedding Day] The marriage of Christ takes place at the time of His second coming. [Eternity] The last of Johns four major visions in the book of Revelation was the marriage of the universal couple: the processed and consummated Triune God with His redeemed, regenerated, transformed, and glorified tripartite elect, the believers.
