Apparent Discrepancies Are Made Clear: The Genealogies of Christ Fill Us with Hope and EncouragementChrists Genealogies Reveal That We can Be Related to Him!TamarTamar was the wife of Judahs firstborn son Er, but Er died without producing any children. So according to Jewish law, Judahs second son Onan was required to marry Tamar in order to produce an heir for his brother. Onan, however, was not willing to perform his duty, since the heir would not be his own, thus God judged Onan, taking his life. Judah then promised to give Tamar his third son as soon as he reached adulthood, but when Judah failed to keep his promise, Tamar took the matter into her own hands. After Judahs wife died, Tamar disguised herself as a harlot and enticed Judah to lie with her, thereby committing incest with her father-in-law but succeeding in preserving the inheritance of Judahs firstborn son (Genesis 38:6-30). What an evil to commit incest with ones father-in-law, yet this case is recorded in the genealogy of Christ, indicating that He is related to sinful people.
