Christ’s Genealogies Reveal That We can Be Related to Him!

If one of your ancestors were an unsavory character, you might prefer that no one knew that you were related. Not so with Christ! His genealogy declares that He descended from people of low as well as high estate, from prostitutes and offspring of incestuous relationships, and from both Jews and Gentiles. His genealogy reveals that God longs for a relationship with us regardless of our identity and background.

[Bathsheba] She represents a case of adultery and murder.

[Tamar] She committed incest in order to maintain her deceased husband’s inheritance.

[Rahab] She was a prostitute in Jericho.

[Ruth] She was a Moabitess of incestuous origin.

[Our hope] Whatever our background or identity, we are qualified to be related to Christ.
